Near Infrared Sauna Therapy is something new that we are offering at Tooth by the Lake!  We are very excited to be able to offer this to our patients to further help with mercury detoxification and overall health!

 NEAR INFRARED SAUNA THERAPY

WHAT IS A NEAR INFRARED SAUNA?

 A near infrared sauna is an indoor sauna that is powered and heated by the “near” portion of the infrared energy spectrum.  Near infrared is a shorter wavelength of infrared energy that carries 10x the energy of the far infrared.  Near infrared saunas are especially powerful in cleansing the body and for whole body detoxification.  When you use a near infrared sauna for detoxification, you will remove fat-soluble compounds, water-soluble compounds and heavy metals.

NEAR VS FAR INFRARED SAUNAS

  • Deeper tissue penetration- Near infrared saunas can penetrate the surface of the skin more than a far infrared or traditional hot sauna.  Far infrared can penetrate 1-1.5 inches whereas near infrared saunas can penetrate up to 3-4 inches.  The greater the penetration the greater the overall detox may be.

  • Anti-inflammatory and pain relieving- Far infrared wavelengths do not create an anti-inflammatory response like near infrared wavelengths do.

  • EMF safe- Most far infrared saunas produce high EMF’s.  Near infrared sauna EMF’s are virtually zero making them safer!

  • Phototherapy- The cells in our body contain tiny photoreceptors called “chromophores” which absorb near infrared light but not mid or far infrared light.  Far infrared saunas only produce heat therapy not near infrared phototherapy therapy.

  • Sweats out toxins- Near infrared saunas encourage good sweating-meaning you sweat out the toxic chemicals and heavy metal s you are exposed to everyday.  This helps ease up the load on your kidneys and liver, which often have to shoulder the heavy burden of detoxing your whole body.  Heavy metals such as mercury, lead, cadmium, nickel and arsenic build up in our bodies causing many ailments, illnesses, and diseases including cancer.  Fortunately by regularly using a near infrared sauna you can eliminate the accumulation of these toxins and heavy metals.

HOW CAN NEAR INFRARED BE USED IN DENTISTRY?

  • It is helpful to have a near infrared therapy session after each mercury amalgam removal session to start the detoxification process right away.

  • If you are suffering from any dental infection- tooth abscess, gum disease, cavitations- the near infrared sauna will decrease inflammation, accelerate wound healing and boost your immune system to help fight the infection.

  • If dentistry stresses you out, a near infrared sauna session after will help you de-stress and relax.

  • If you are doing a cleanse or intense detox to improve your overall health, this is a great way to help that process along and further cleanse and detoxify your body.

COMMON QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q:  Who should not use the sauna?

A:  People with the following conditions should not use the sauna-

-Pregnancy or breastfeeding

-Hemophiliacs or persons prone to bleeding

-Fever

-Insensitivity to heat

-Adrenal stress or fatigue

-Large brain tumors

-Unstable angina, recent heart attacks or infarctions (within the last 6 months) or severe aortic stenosis

-Epilepsy

-Recent stroke (within the last 6 months)

-Past use of LSD or other psychedelic drugs

-Children under 6 years of age

 

Q: What do I wear in the sauna?

A:  The less you wear the better but we do not recommend you be completely naked.  We will be checking on you during your session and would not like to see you completely naked.  We recommend wearing any of the following- shorts or swimming trunks for the men and a bikini bathing suit or shorts and a sports bra for the women.  We will have you sitting on a towel and will have other towels placed under the seat.

 

Q:  How will I feel afterwards?

A:  Most people will feel relaxed and refreshed afterwards.  Sometimes at the beginning of sauna therapy use people can experience a healing reaction.  Most healing reactions are mild and pass quickly.  Symptoms may include diarrhea, constipation, aches, pains, muscle cramps, rashes, headaches, odors, irritability and fatigue.  There can also be emotional reactions including feelings of anxiety, depression, moodiness, crying, fear or anger.  Healing reactions occur because toxins are being mobilized from storage sites throughout the body and your body is being burdened with having to deal with all of this.  Resting, drinking plenty of water, eating lightly and healthy, and going for a walk are great ways to help you through this healing crisis.

 

Q:  Is it safe to look at the near infrared sauna bulbs?

A:  Yes, it is safe to look at the bulbs and it will not damage your eyes.  However, if the light bothers your eyes we have sunglasses available for you to use or you can bring your own.

 

Q:  How long are the sauna sessions?

A:  At first we recommend only 20 minutes.  You may go shorter if you wish but not longer.  If you are using the sauna frequently and would then like to extend your sessions we will allow you to go to 25-30minutes.

 

Q:  How much do the sauna sessions cost?

A:  We are charging $20 for a 20 minutes session, $25 for 25 minutes and $30 for 30 minutes.
